Frequently asked questions

My driving hours aren't being tracked

FirstGear needs location access to verify your drive. Open the iOS Settings app → FirstGearLocation, and make sure access is set to While Using the App (or Always for background tracking during a drive). Then start a new drive from the app.

Day vs. night hours look wrong

FirstGear classifies night hours using sunrise/sunset for the drive's date and location. If a drive spans dusk, its hours are split between day and night automatically. You can review the split on the drive's detail screen.

How do I export my log as a PDF?

Open the app, go to your log, and tap the export button. Choose PDF, then share it via email, Files, or AirDrop using the standard iOS share sheet. You can hand the PDF to your supervisor or the DMV.

My log isn't syncing across devices

iCloud sync requires that you're signed in to iCloud and that iCloud is enabled for FirstGear. Check iOS Settings → your name at the top → iCloud, and make sure FirstGear is allowed. Both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account.

How do I add a supervisor or vehicle?

You can add the licensed adults who supervise your drives and the vehicles you drive from within the app, then attach them to each drive when you save it.

How is my data protected?

Your data stays on your device and, optionally, in your own iCloud account. FirstGear has no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking, and we never receive your data. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Billing and the free trial

FirstGear offers a 7-day free trial, then a one-time $4.99 unlock — there is no subscription. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple; manage them in iOS Settings → your name → Media & Purchases, or via Apple's billing support.
